Doom's Retreat Lower Boulder Choke

Speedwell Cavern, bolting.

Jules Barrett drilling a hole using a Bosch GBH 24 volt cordless drill. The hole will be used for the placement of an resin anchor. Jules who is the DCA Resin Anchor person has been helping Jim get started with the project to replace the old Spits in the Pilkington Series, with the latest stainless steel resin anchors.

Jim has decided after visiting the area, with Wayne Sheldon to help him with survey work, that the old anchors and 7.5mm, rope are well over due for replacement, they have done there job and are now old and dangerously worn and in need replacement as soon as possible. The cost of the project will be around £200 this cost has been met by Jim, who looks on it as a sort of donation to the Cave Rescue Organization, "it would be a very difficult place to rescue some one from, so prevention is the way forward!" Persons using the new Anchors and rope will be doing so at there own risk! and should inspect and assess them for them self's before use!

Odd deposits in Ink Sump, Peak Cavern

The passage walls at both ends of Ink Sump in Peak Cavern are coated with a film of slime. In parts of the sump this has built up into sheets and peeled away from the walls to hang down like curtains. The likey source of this pollution is the paper pulp that has been stored in a big pile and now spread over the land near to Hazard Mine on Dirtlow Rake. Messy rather than harmful. Hopefully a few good floods should see this all cleaned through.
